1. Who can apply to the From Purpose to Impact Journey?

The hackathon is open to all students from FEUP and the University of Aveiro, regardless of their field or level of study. Participants can apply individually, in teams (3-5 people), or in incomplete teams (we will match you with others). However, to foster diversity and interdisciplinary collaboration, all final teams must include students from at least two different courses.

2. Is there a cost to participate?

No, participation in From Purpose to Impact is completely free. You can just win from this program!

3. What kind of support will I receive during the program?

Participants will receive:

  • Expert support from industry leaders and academics during the Hackathon Day.
  • Masterclasses on social innovation, sustainability, and leadership.
  • A curated toolkit with case studies, frameworks, and acceleration resources.
  • Networking opportunities with professionals and like-minded peers.

4. What happens after the hackathon?

Winning teams will receive monetary and development prizes, and access to tools to help them further develop their projects. Additionally, participants will gain visibility, potential partnerships, and tips to funding opportunities to continue working on their solutions.

5. I already have an idea for the challenges proposed, can I participate?

Yes, you can! However the program is designed and will be more valuable if you come with no idea in mind, to be developed throughout the journey. Therefore, you and your team will have to come with an open mind and pass through the program´s steps of inspiration, framing the problem, ideation, canvas and pitch of your solution.

6. What are the selection criteria for the winners?

Solutions will be evaluated based on:

  • Creativity (20%) – How unique and original is your idea?
  • Impact & Sustainability (20%) – Does your project create meaningful environmental or social change?
  • Feasibility (20%) – Can the solution be realistically implemented?
  • Market Potential (15%) – Does it have the potential to scale or be adopted?
  • Clarity & Quality of Pitch (15%) – How well is the solution presented?
  • Team Collaboration & Leadership (10%) – Did the team work well together and show strong leadership?

7. How will the monetary prizes be awarded?

The top projects will receive:

  • Bondalti Challenge Winner – The team with the highest total score across all categories.
    Prize: €2,000 + Exclusive experience at a top-tier international conference.
  • Best Sustainable Solution – The team with the highest Impact & Sustainability + Creativity score
    Prize: €1,500 + Advanced Sustainability Training.
  • Best Entrepreneurship Project – The team with the highest Feasibility + Creativity score
    Prize: €1,500 + Guaranteed spot in a national accelerator (IRIS, Startup Lisboa, Casa do Impacto).

8. Do I need to be based in Porto or Aveiro to apply?

Yes, since the hackathon is exclusively for students from FEUP and the University of Aveiro, participants must be enrolled in either of these institutions.

9. Is the program conducted online or in-person?

The Masterclasses and Pre-Hackathon activities will be online. The Hackathon Day will be in person, requiring all participants to be present for the event.

10. Where will the hackathon take place?

The Hackathon Day will be held at [X]. Get ready for a packed day of innovation, collaboration, and networking! Morning and afternoon coffee break and lunch will be provided for the participants.

11. What do I need to bring for the hackathon day?

We’ve got you covered! All necessary materials, resources, and frameworks will be provided. However, if you’d like to conduct research or take notes, feel free to bring your laptop or tablet, they can be useful tools throughout the day.

12. How many hours of commitment is expected from me in this program?

At Hackathon Day, be prepared for a full-day immersive experience, from check-in at 9:00 AM to the closing celebration at 7:00 PM. It’s a busy, engaging day, so charge your energy and get ready for an unforgettable experience!

The Masterclasses are optional, 1-hour online sessions designed to inspire, educate, and prepare you for the hackathon. Similarly, the Pre-Hackathon engagement activities are also optional but highly valuable – these short interactive challenges (approximately 1 hour in total) help build team synergy, and give you the chance to earn participation awards!

The Toolkit materials are available for you to explore at your own pace, packed with valuable resources to support your entrepreneurial journey. While not mandatory, they are a great bonus for deepening your understanding and preparation!

13. Can I get a participation certificate even if I don’t win?

Absolutely! All participants will receive an official participation certificate, which will be distributed at the end of the event, right after the awards announcement. It’s our way of recognizing your dedication, effort, and contribution to the hackathon!

14. How can I apply?
