About Together Matters – From Purpose to Impact
Together Matters – From Purpose to Impact was more than just a hackathon – it was a transformative journey where students developed entrepreneurial skills, and co-create real-world solutions for a more sustainable future.
Through a masterclass, and an exclusive toolkit, participants explored the intersection of sustainability, innovation, and social impact, culminating in an immersive hackathon day in Estarreja where they brought their ideas to life.
Powered by Bondalti, this program was designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, connecting young talent with corporate leaders, NGOs, and sustainability experts. Purpose can lead to impact and Bondalti is committed to develop the next generation of leaders driving positive change in society!

During the session, participants gained valuable insights from Inês Costa (Deloitte), who unpacked the concept of green jobs: what they are, why they’re becoming increasingly relevant, and how opportunities are expanding in sectors such as renewable energy, climate technology, circular economy, and ESG.
The core of the event was a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Ana Costa (Beta-i), where speakers shared their personal career journeys, reflected on key trends shaping sustainability across industries, and offered concrete guidance on the skills and certifications that are currently in demand.
This exchange of experiences and perspectives helped participants better understand how their own paths, regardless of background, can align with emerging opportunities in the sustainability space.
Toolkit
As part of the Together Matters – From Purpose to Impact experience, participants received exclusive access to a hands-on Toolkit designed to spark ideas, guide project development, and expand their understanding of how to turn purpose into practical, sustainable solutions. The Toolkit featured deep dives into the program’s key challenges, interactive quizzes on water footprint and personality types, and rich content on SDGs, Social Innovation, and Theory of Change, offering frameworks, references, and tools to support impactful, systems-driven thinking.
SDGs
The SDGs are a global blueprint adopted by all United Nations Member States to build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world by 2030. Comprising 17 interconnected goals, from clean water and climate action to responsible production and partnerships, they offer a shared framework for addressing today’s most urgent challenges. During the hackathon, participants were encouraged to align their solutions with relevant SDGs to ensure real-world relevance, long-term impact, and global scalability.
Social Innovation
Social innovation is about creating new, effective solutions to unmet societal and environmental needs. It moves beyond isolated fixes by promoting systemic change and engaging diverse actors (governments, businesses, NGOs, and communities). From clean tech to inclusive urban models, social innovation bridges social and environmental priorities, driving impact through collaboration, empathy, and purpose-led design.
Theory of Change
The Theory of Change (ToC) is a strategic framework that helps define how and why a desired change is expected to happen. By mapping out a logical sequence from inputs to long-term impact, it helps teams design, test, and adapt solutions more effectively. Grounded in evidence and systems thinking, ToC strengthens clarity, collaboration, and accountability, ensuring that bold ideas are backed by actionable, measurable pathways to impact.
Hackathon Day
On May 15th, 2025, our journey reached an exciting milestone with Hackathon Day, a high-energy, full-day event held at the Municipal Library of Estarreja. In an inspiring atmosphere filled with creativity and purpose, participants worked intensively to ideate, develop, and pitch their solutions to real-world sustainability challenges.
Supported by professionals from Bondalti and experts from Quercus Aveiro and IRIS, teams engaged in hands-on workshops focused on design thinking, business modeling, and pitch delivery. Using structured canvases and a comprehensive project booklet, they navigated a series of key stages designed to guide them from insight to action:
Frame the problem
Each team began by selecting one of the sustainable challenge areas, they then conducted a problem tree analysis and crafted a “How Might We” question to define a focused and actionable problem statement, laying the foundation for meaningful innovation.
Ideate
With a clear problem in hand, teams explored creative problem-solving frameworks to generate a wide range of potential solutions, encouraging bold thinking and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Social Sustainability Impact Canvas
Beyond the traditional Business Model Canvas, participants were invited to map the social and environmental impact of their solutions using the Social Sustainability Impact Canvas. This tool helped ensure their ideas considered social-environmental costs, aligned with SDG targets, included measurable KPIs, and approached a systemic change perspective.
Pitch Workshop
Participants learned how to craft a compelling pitch using storytelling techniques and a structured presentation template. Guided by mentors, they refined their message and practiced delivery to prepare for the final showcase.
Final Presentations
The day concluded at the Cine-Teatro of Estarreja, where each team pitched their solution to a jury of experts. Projects were evaluated, and winners were revealed to celebrate the creativity, collaboration, and commitment that defined the entire program.
